What does it treat?

How does it work?

Laser penetrates to the dermis with thousands of microscopic thermal columns. These channels affect a small portion of the skin leaving the surrounding tissue intact. This treatment is what causes the unaffected areas to trigger the rapid healing response stimulating the production of collagen and new skin cells, helping improve the skin’s texture.

How many treatments are involved?

Each individual is different; however, clinical studies suggest that on average 1 treatment with ablative Laser (CO2) or 3-5 treatment with non ablative Laser ( Fraxel™), spaced at 2-4 weeks apart is an effective treatment regime. Depending on your skin’s condition and your personal time constraints the treatments can be tailored to suit your lifestyle and needs. Results are immediate and progressive, with optimal improvement usually visible in 2-3 months, the time it takes for the complete healing and production of new collagen and elastin.

What can I expect during a Laser treatment?

Laser treatments take approximately 30 minutes. The level is discomfort varies from individual to individual. One hour prior to the procedure a local anesthetic is applied to the area and during treatment a chilled air cooler is used to reduce discomfort. The sensation experienced can best be described an increased sensation of heat. Immediately following the procedure the area is treated with cold compresses.

After the Laser Treatment?

During the first 24 hours after treatment the skin have the sensation not unlike sunburn; it will be pink to red and hot. This will resolve itself and can be covered with a mineral makeup. Swelling may also occur but it is minimal and will clear within a day to 2 weeks, depending on the level of treatment. Over the next week the skin will bronze and then as in following sunburn it will flake and exfoliate naturally. The sensation of dryness and flaking can be reduced by using a neutral moisturizer.

Sunscreen, SPF 30 or higher twice a day is very important. Direct sun should be avoided during the healing process and for at least 3 months following the treatment. A good skin care regime and the continued use of a daily sunscreen will help to maintain the results of your Fraxel™.

Is Laser complimentary to other treatments?

Laser can be used as primary treatment or as a complimentary method to enhance the results with a good skin regime. It also combines beautifully with other surgical and soft treatments. Cost effective packages are available to optimize the results you are after.
