Penis Enlargement Surgery includes alters and improves the appearance and function of the male genitals. This is a relatively new field in aesthetic surgery, but has become increasingly popular with time. The length of the penis can vary from a few centimetres up to 15 centimetres while at rest.

We follow scientific guidelines to address the functional problems of short/thin penises, medically defined as “micropenis”.

The Consultation

During the consultation, the surgeon discusses any urological and sexual problems. The length and size of the penis are assessed, along with its mobility and suitability for an enlargement. The guidelines will be followed to determine if you are a suitable candidate for the penile augmentation procedure. The penis can be thickened by transplanting skin or fat to the penis shaft. The size of the thickened area depends on how much of the fat stays in place. As a rule of thumb, around 30% of the injected fat stays in place permanently. The result is visible after six months. Should the patient desire extra thickness, another procedure will be required.

The Surgery

1-Penile lengthening procedure: The extension of the penis varies from a few centimetres to up to 25% of its resting length. The operation is done under general anaesthetic. To extend the penis, the ligament that suspends the penis inside the body is loosened, so that the part of the penis which was inside the body ends up on the outside. Erection ability is not influenced by the procedure. Assuming no complications ensue, the sensitivity of the skin and the head of the penis is not altered.

2-Penile thickening procedure: Australia Plastic Surgery uses fat transplant technique. Fat is normally sucked out of the waist or abdomen and injected around the penis shaft through puncture hole. Normally, 20-30ml are needed. Post-op pain is not normally severe, but most patients must spend the night at the hospital. Assuming no complications ensue, the sensitivity of the skin and the head of the penis remains unchanged. Erection ability is not influenced by the procedure.

After Surgery

Penile lengthening: Any pain after surgery is normally manageable with simple pain killers. The penis may swell, and erections during this time can be painful, however this usually disappears after the first week of surgery. You will be asked to take oral Antibiotic to prevent infection. You will have simple dressing at the pubic area. It is very important to keep the area clean and to shower twice a day from the 3rd day after the procedure. The sutures are dissolvable and do not need to be removed. The wound will be reviewed in the clinic in a week time.

Penile thickening: Any pain after surgery is normally linked to the area where the liposuction has been performed, rather than the penis. The penis will swell significantly in the first two weeks, and erections during this time can be painful, however this usually disappears after the first week of surgery. What Are The Risks Associated With This Procedure?

Plastic surgery, like any surgical procedure, carries inherent risks and potential complications.

Please read our Risks and Complications of Plastic Surgery page.

Penile lengthening involves releasing the suspensory ligament that holds part of the penis inside the body, allowing more of the shaft to be visible externally. Penile thickening typically utilizes a fat transfer technique, where fat is harvested via liposuction from the abdomen or waist and injected around the penile shaft.

The cost depends on whether you are undergoing lengthening, thickening, or a combination of both. Generally, prices for these procedures at Australia Plastic Surgery start from approximately $8,500 to $12,500, plus hospital and anaesthesia fees. You will receive a formal, transparent quote following your mandatory clinical consultations and the 7 day cooling off period.

Yes. In accordance with AHPRA regulations, all patients seeking cosmetic surgery must provide a referral from their regular GP before their first consultation. This ensures that a medical professional who knows your history has reviewed your suitability for a surgical pathway.

Most patients return to light activities within 1 week. Swelling is common and typically peaks in the first 14 days. You must refrain from all sexual activity (including masturbation) and strenuous exercise for at least 6 weeks to allow the internal tissues and fat grafts to stabilize.

When performed by a Specialist Plastic Surgeon, these procedures are designed to avoid the internal nerves and erectile chambers. Therefore, the ability to achieve an erection and the sensitivity of the glans (head) should remain unchanged. However, erections may be uncomfortable during the first week of healing due to initial swelling.

For thickening via fat transfer, approximately 30% of the injected fat is typically retained permanently by the body after the initial 6 month healing phase. Some patients may choose a second procedure if they desire further girth. The results of the lengthening procedure (ligament release) are permanent.

All surgical procedures involve risks. For penile surgery, these may include infection, fat necrosis (where fat does not survive), asymmetry, or scarring at the ligament release site. Choosing a RACS accredited Specialist Plastic Surgeon ensures your procedure is performed in a high standard clinical environment to manage these risks.

Lengthening can typically increase resting (flaccid) length by 2cm to 4cm, depending on your individual anatomy. Girth increases depend on the volume of fat graft that successfully “takes.” Your surgeon will provide a realistic assessment of potential outcomes during your clinical examination.

Yes. Following your second consultation, AHPRA mandates a minimum 7 day cooling off period. This is designed to give you time to reflect on the risks, costs, and surgical information provided before making a final commitment.
