Contemporary concepts of femininity emphasise an aesthetically pleasing breast shape in situations of dress and undress. For different women, this can mean different things. With modern advances in plastic surgery, breast size is a matter of personal choice. Now, women who dream of a curvier, fuller figure can increase their breast sizes and improve its shape. However, it’s important to differentiate between an excellent breast augmentation and an obvious boob job. At Australia Plastic Surgery, we emphasise a natural, ‘non-operated’ look. A breast augmentation should look and feel natural, with a natural fullness and gentle sloping of the chest wall. There should be natural cleavage without webbing between the breasts. To achieve this, we consider which incision to use, implant type, implant texture, implant size, placement of the implant, thickness of your tissue, presence of sagginess, asymmetry of the breast, and desired breast width, height, and projection.
Why do women in Sydney choose to have breast augmentation surgery?
Women in Sydney opt for breast augmentation surgery for numerous reasons:
- Some women desire larger breasts.
- Some women seek to improve breast shape that is often lost during pregnancy or with age
- Fixing congenital or developmental problems that produced smaller breasts.
- Alleviating other injuries such as scars or burns which may limit breast growth.
Traditionally, breast implants are used for breast augmentation. However, recent technology and advancement in plastic surgery have introduced breast enlargement techniques without implants. You can get more information about techniques such as breast augmentation with fat injection and Macrolane biosynthetic product from our office.
Planning Your Sydney Breast Augmentation Consultation
What to Expect During Your Breast Augmentation Consultation
We encourage you to bring your partner or a family member during the breast augmentation consultation if you feel they can help you in making a safe decision regarding your health.
Your full medical history and prior examinations will be obtained including ontological, breast feeding, and family planning.
A full breast analysis will be conducted including attention to the distance from the areola to the inframammary crease, the transverse diameter, the height of the breast, and the exact desired position of the inframammary fold.
After a comprehensive analysis, an interactive discussion between you and your surgeon, will determine whether you are suitable for a soft treatment or if you require a surgical solution.
If surgery is required, you will be given various implant shapes and sizes to try on. You are advised to take a sports bra to better envisage the end look. Accordingly, the implant size, shape, and projection will be selected and the surgical approach will be determined. Each patient is unique, therefore we tailor the technique to suit the shape of your current breast, the amount of breast tissue andoverall body symmetry.
Computer analysis can also aid in conveying your wishes to the surgeon by selecting the size and shape of the implants, and may also help the surgeon relay postoperative expectations back to you.
Required Measurements for Breast Augmentation Surgery
The Procedure for Breast Augmentation Surgery
A small incision of approximately four centimetres is made either around the areole (the dark skin surrounding the nipple), under the breast or in the armpit. This will depend on your anatomy and the type of implant you have chosen. Working through the incision, the surgeon lifts the breast tissue and skin to create a pocket.
The muscle is released from its lowest origin and elevated to the superior element of the breast implant pocket. Because of this release, the implant is able to rest behind the breast tissue in the lower aspect of the pocket. This allows the muscle to cover the upper breast implant and hide it from being easily seen and felt. At the same time, the dual plane breast implant position allows the implant to fill out the breast in the lower region, behind the nipple, to create a great teardrop shape and a natural appearance. Additionally, the muscle is able to massage the implant and help reduce the problematic scar contractures that need to be avoided.
The implants are then centred beneath the nipples, and the pocket and skin closed meticulously by our surgeons.
The procedure takes between 60 and 120 minutes, depending on the complexity of the case.
The position of the incision is made in one of these locations:
What To Expect After Breast Augmentation Surgery
A compression bandage must be worn on the treated area for approximately 24 hours. This is necessary for effective healing.
Generally, you will be able to go home on the same day; however, some patients may require an overnight stay.
For the first week following surgery, you will have to wear a sports bra at all times.
For a month after this, you will need to wear one during the night.
Stitches are usually resorbable, and bruising can take up 1-3 weeks to subside.
Scarring is minimal and becomes virtually undetectable over time.
Getting Back to Work and Normal Activities after Breast Augmentation
You will have to rest completely for the first 48 hours after surgery. It is quite normal to experience a burning sensation during this time.
It may be possible to return to work after as little as four days, as long as you do not lift any heavy objects.
Normal physical activity can be resumed after about a month.
Common Reasons For Breast Augmentation Surgery
There are many reasons why cosmetic plastic surgery for the breasts is desirable. Australia Plastic Surgery is experienced with breast procedures such as reshaping, correction of asymmetry, droopiness, correction of the nipples, correction of previous surgery, or a combination of the aforementioned.
Every woman has her own reasons for desiring breast enhancement. While we counsel every patient individually, there are some particularly common reasons that women come to see us for breast enlargement or breast lift surgery. Deciding on a breast implant operation is a very personal decision, and not one to be made lightly. Finding the right operation, and having it performed by the right surgeon, is key to a great, long-lasting result.
Here are the most common reasons our surgeons perform breast surgery:
“I can’t find flattering clothes that fit me.”
This is perhaps the most frequent complaint of our patients at Australia Plastic Surgery. In Australia, summery apparel and bathing suits can be fun to wear, but can accentuate specific aspects of the body. Some women feel that breast implant surgery allows them to easily find clothes that fit the rest of their body.
“I would like my body to be more proportional.”
Many women find that their body type and their breast size don’t seem to correspond to each other. There is similar reasoning behind many breast reductions. A well-proportioned look boosts the overall aesthetic of the body. Breast implant surgery can help patients achieved balanced proportions.
“My breasts have gotten smaller as I’ve aged.”
Often during pregnancy, a woman’s breast will enlarge with growth of the milk-producing glands required for breast-feeding. Subsequently, some women experience a shrinking of the breast tissue, and wish to achieve the appearance they had before or during pregnancy. This, again, is an excellent reason to get breast implant surgery. We help mothers who desire the pre-atrophy look.
“My breasts are sagging.”
This is called ptosis, or drooping of the breast, and often follows pregnancy. A breast lift alone may correct this problem but sometimes an implant may be required as well to achieve the look that the patient wishes to have. The mastopexy (lift) can be performed at the same time as the breast implant placement and gives a great, youthful appearance to the breast form.
“My breasts are different sizes.”
Breast asymmetry is a natural and completely normal finding. Some degree of natural asymmetry should be expected as part of life, but if there is a significant difference between the two breasts, breast implant surgery can help to give the patient a better appearance. In these situations, a different sized breast implant can be utilised on each side to achieve a natural symmetric look. No two breasts will ever be exactly the same size with or without surgery, but with today’s surgical options, improvement can be made to the point that it is difficult to see any difference from one breast to the other.
