Breast Augmentation

Contemporary concepts of female beauty and femininity necessitate that the breast be aesthetically pleasing in all situations of dress and undress. For different women, this can mean different things. With modern advances in plastic surgery, breast size is a matter of personal choice. Now, women who dream of a curvier, fuller figure can increase their breast sizes and improve its shape. However, it’s important to differentiate between an excellent breast augmentation and an obvious boob job. Australia Plastic Surgery emphasises that breasts shouldn’t look augmented, but rather completely natural.

A breast augmentation should look natural and feel natural, unlike obvious boob jobs where it’s easy to tell a woman has had surgery. A good breast augmentation has a natural fullness and gentle sloping of the chest wall. There should be natural cleavage without webbing between the breasts. Some options that Australia Plastic Surgery consider that make for a desirable breast augmentation include which incision to use, what type of implant to use, placement of the implant, texture of the implant, size of the implant, thickness of your tissue, presence of sagginess, asymmetry of the breast, and desired breast width, height, and projection.

Why do women in Sydney choose to have breast augmentation surgery?

Women in Sydney opt for breast augmentation surgery for numerous reasons:

1) Some women desire larger breasts.

2) Some women seek to improve breast shape that is often lost during pregnancy i.e. inflating-deflating phenomena, or breast shape that was lost with age i.e. fat atrophy and gravitational phenomena.

3) Fixing congenital or developmental problems that produced smaller breasts.

4) Alleviating other injuries such as scars or burns which which may limit breast growth.

Traditionally, breast implants are used for breast augmentation. However, recent technology and advancement in plastic surgery have introduced breast enlargement techniques without implants. You can get more information about techniques such as breast augmentation with fat injection and Macrolane biosynthetic product from our office.

Planning Your Sydney Breast Augmentation Consultation

What To Expect During Your Breast Augmentation Consultation

We encourage you to bring your partner or a family member during the breast augmentation consultation if you feel they can help you in making a safe decision regarding your health.

Your full medical history and prior examinations will be obtained including ontological, breast feeding, and family planning.

A full breast analysis will be conducted including particular attention to the distance from the areola to the inframammary crease, the transverse diameter, the height of the breast, and the exact desired position of the inframammary fold.

After a comprehensive analysis, exact measurements and an interactive discussion between you and the surgeon, Dr Barnouti, will determine if you are suitable for a soft treatment or if you require a surgical solution to the problem.

If surgery is required, you will be given various implants shapes and sizes to try on. You are advised to take a sports bra to better imagine how they would feel and help your decision. Accordingly, the implant size, shape, and projection will be selected and the surgical approach will be determined. Each patient is unique, therefore we tailor the technique to suit your individual needs based on the shape of your current breast, the amount of breast tissue, overall body size, and exact scientific measurements to determine the size, position, and texture of the implants and the exact placing of the incision.

Australia Plastic Surgery prides itself in producing a natural breast result through exact measurements which produce more predictable outcomes, a technique that is developed and being practised in Europe and some parts of the USA.

Computer analysis can also aid in conveying your wishes to the surgeon by selecting the size and shape of the implants, and may also help the surgeon relay postoperative expectations back to you.

The Procedure for Breast Augmentation Surgery

A small incision of approximately four centimetres in length is made either around the areole (the dark skin surrounding the nipple), under the breast, or in the armpit. This will depend on your anatomy and the type of implant you have chosen. Working through the incision, the surgeon lifts the breast tissue and skin to create a pocket. A dual plane breast implant position, in many cases, combines the best of the submuscular breast implant position with the best of the subglandular breast implant position.

The muscle is released from its lowest origin in the inferior and lower medial portions of the breast area, and elevated in the superior aspect of the breast implant pocket. Because of this inferior release, the breast implant is allowed to rest behind the breast tissue in the lower aspect of the pocket. This allows the muscle to cover the upper breast implant and hide it from being easily seen and felt. At the same time, the dual plane breast implant position allows the implant to fill out the breast in the lower region, behind the nipple, to create a great teardrop shape and a natural breast appearance. Additionally, the muscle is able to massage the implant in the superior portion of the pocket, and thereby help reduce the problematic scar contractures that need to be avoided.

The implants are then centred beneath the nipples, and the pocket and skin closed meticulously by our surgeons.

The procedure takes between 60 and 120 minutes, depending on the complexity of the case.

The position of the incision is made in one of these locations:

What To Expect After Breast Augmentation Surgery

A compression bandage must be worn on the treated area for approximately 24 hours. This is necessary for effective healing.

Generally, you will be able to go home on the same day; however, some patients may require staying in hospital overnight.

For the first week following surgery, you will have to wear a sports bra at all times.

For a month after this, you will need to wear one during the night.

Stitches are usually resorbable, and bruising can take up 1-3 weeks to subside.

Scarring is minimal and becomes virtually undetectable over time.

Getting Back to Work and Normal Activities after Breast Augmentation

You will have to rest completely for the first 48 hours after surgery. It is quite normal to experience a burning sensation during this time.

It may be possible to return to work after as little as four days, but only if it does not require you to lift heavy objects.

Normal physical activity can be resumed after about a month.

Common Reasons for Breast Augmentation Surgery

There are many reasons why undertaking cosmetic plastic surgery to the breasts is desirable. Australia Plastic Surgery is experienced with breast augmentation procedures such as reshaping, correction of asymmetry, droopiness, correction of the nipples, correction of previous surgery, or a combination of the aforementioned. We also have access to the latest technology and equipment and are able to offer operations, injections, and medical skin care especially for the breasts.

Every woman has her own reasons for wanting breast enhancement. While we counsel every patient to make sure that her interests in breast enhancement surgery are commensurate with her goals, there are some particularly common reasons that women come to see us for breast enlargement or breast lift surgery. Deciding on a breast implant operation is a very personal decision, and not one to be made lightly. Finding the right operation, and having it performed by the right surgeon, is key to increasing the likelihood of a long-lasting and great result. Making the decision to have a breast enhancement should be well thought out by the patient as well.

Here are 5 common reasons our surgeons perform cosmetic breast surgery:

1. “I can’t find flattering clothes that fit me.”

This is perhaps the most frequent complaint of our patients at Australia Plastic Surgery. In Australia, summery apparel and bathing suits can be fun to wear, but can accentuate specific aspects of the body. Wearing many of these clothes with a smaller chest can be a very attractive look; one that many men and women prefer. Some woman, however, feel that breast implant surgery allows them to more easily find this type of clothing that also fits the rest of their body. This is a good reason to mull over about the surgery. If you want to have that natural looking breast, it’s your time to consider breast implants at Australia Plastic Surgery in Sydney.

2. “I would like my body to be more proportional.”

Many women find that their body type and their breast size don’t seem to correspond to each other. This is the same reason that some women get breast reductions and this is a good reason for that operation as well. A proportioned look can appear aesthetically pleasing, with or without clothing. That being said, everyone has her own ideal, and the patients ideal proportion is the one that surgery should strive to achieve. Breast implant surgery can help to achieve a proportional look, and that is what we aim to achieve here at Australia Plastic Surgery.

3. “My breasts have gotten smaller as I’ve aged.”

Often during pregnancy, a woman’s breast will enlarge with growth of the milk-producing glands required for breast-feeding. This is often a welcomed change. Subsequently, some women experience a shrinking of the breast tissue, and wish to achieve the appearance they had before or during pregnancy. This, again, is an excellent reason to get breast implant surgery. We help mothers who very much enjoy returning to their pre-atrophy look.

4. “My breasts are sagging.”

This is called ptosis, or drooping of the breast, and may also follow pregnancy as an unwanted change. A breast lift alone may correct this problem but sometimes an implant may be required as well to achieve the look that the patients wishes to have. The mastopexy (lift) can be performed at the same time as the breast implant placement and gives a great, youthful appearance to the breast form.

5. “My breasts are different sizes.”

Breast asymmetry is a natural and completely normal finding. Some degree of natural asymmetry should be expected as part of life, but if there is a significant difference in the appearance between the two breasts, breast implant surgery can help to give the patient a better appearance. In these situations, a different sized breast implant can be utilised on each side to achieve a natural symmetric look. No two breasts will ever be exactly the same size with or without surgery, but with today’s surgical options, improvement can be made to the point that it is difficult to see any difference in the size or shape from one breast to the other.
